Have you seen all those pics of people with the "Shh..." tattoos over at Pseudo-Occult Media? I think they are in on it. The veil of obscurity is being lifted...

You see chris, in this symbol we differ again.

To me I don't see "Shh..." in that symbol. (and quite frankly, I don't even really care if the one who first invented it came to me and said it means "Shh...!")
TO ME it has another meaning.
(and as such we see the different actions of different people connecting differently to the Mind of GOD.)

I take that symbol to mean the same as the world's most famous master once taught...

"It is not that which goes into your mouth that defiles you, but that which comes out of it."

Be mindful of what comes out of your mouth.

The Words we say have the power to harm or to bless. (in the sense of our emotions - not magick!)

You can make someone feel good and empowered with what you say or make someone hopeless and miserable with what you say.

That is a weird sign. Are they hiding or revealing something? Harpocrates was adapted by the Greeks from the Egyptian child god Horus. Greeks and Roman poets made Harpocrates the god of Silence and Secrecy.

It should be noted that Dionysos was one of the deities shown in a similar way.

Strangeye:

the funny thing about your interpretation of this gesture is that jesus was all about blabbing the secrets that the jewish priesthood and pagan mystery schools kept only for themselves. he was a serious threat to their power would have put them out of business, running around anointing just anyone with holy oil, and preaching salvation via personal enlightenment, rather than rituals and offerings. jesus' sign should be:

heels together, feet at 45-degree angle, cup both hands to sides of mouth. bend over at waist as far as possible while holding head upright.

in that light, Chris:

thanks for spilling the beans about the grey lodge. after giggling at the funny postures you link to, i poked around to find that the site hosts a fabulous library via their 'occult review'. i look forward to perusing the bansky books i downloaded this morning. how delightful!

fwiw the 'watch what you say' sign that my schoolmates and i used with each other was a forefinger on the nose, held or tapped. not quite "ssh" but more like "everyone knows it (it's as plain as the nose on your face) but we're not going to say it aloud".
