Well the latest in the gossip mills is that Rihanna has reconciled with Chris Brown, leaving some of us scratching our heads at the whole point of that fiasco. Domestic abuse experts aren't that thrilled either.
I can't help but think of that
So, let's wash away that lingering ritualistic aftertaste with some pure pop refreshment. This is Santogold, who cut my favorite album of 2008. Call her the anti-Rihanna. Santo cooks up brilliantly-crafted pop with early 80s seasoning and hooks so infectious you'll need penicillin to get them out of your head. Interesting visual references to dualism and dichotomy in this video as well.

It may just be a protective getting back together. Like Rihanna become the real equivalent representation of her mythical "Umbrella", keeping Chris Brown safe and deflecting the missles of anger hurled around during this completely NUTs situation. Which seems to have be exacerbated by the media harping on the incident.
Chris Brown had received a ridiculous amount of threats, including J-Hova, Jay-Z, himself, who referred to Brown as a "Dead Man". Chris Brown was also holed up in a hotel with numerous bodyguards surrounding him everywhere he went.
People might be mad when they get their asses kicked but that does not necessarily mean that they want to see the ass-kicker actually be killed in return.
In this absolutely NUTs Brown and Rihanna fiasco we can catch echoes of the reconciliation and phoenix-rebith theme. However, I think perhaps we'll see this particular fiasco play out in the near future (sub 1 yr) as the couple finally parting after the insanity of the moment, the harping media, and the over-heightened public reaction of some unstable-fans finally cools down.

The Santogold link isn't working, try this one.
saw santagold last summer in boston, good show but I think she not only used backing tracks but might have lipsynched as well. As a live music fan that's always a little disappointing.. love both your blogs by the way, thank you so much for your time invested.
M.I.A. is great as well in a similar vein to santagold, and best show I've seen recently was Gza (of the Wu tang), played in a boston bar from 1 AM till close- no lip synch at all played all of Liquid Swords a classic hip hop album.
peace out-

Nice.
I downloaded this album off after this post. Thanks for the heads up.
I checked out her wikipedia page and found this.
"The song was also released as a download via subscription to (RED)Wire, with a portion of the profits going towards Bono's Product Red organization".
The song is "Shove it" form Notorius Big's movie soundtrack.
I just thought the Bono was just one of those timely universal winks you might be interested.
Thanks again, love the blogs.

Wow, sorry for some of those typos.
I rushed my comments and now feel a bit redfaced.
:-)
Toothygrinmatt.
This is a really sad story. I do hope that Chris Brown will be punished, if he was the person that inflicted the injuries to her.
I am really tired of seeing women being abused by their boyfriends or husbands. Rihanna needs to take a close examination of what happen to Jennifer Hudson's family.
I meant to say that on Santigolds wikipedia page in the collaborations section, her song "shove it" was sampled for a Jay-Z song (Brooklyn Go Hard) from the Notorious B.I.G. soundtrack.
The connection to Bono was via the Jay-Z song not Santigolds own.
Still, I thought it was noteworthy.
And yes, this Santigold album is incredibly infectious.
Thanks again and sorry for my previous incoherent babble.

Ben from Psuedo Occult Media would have a feild day with this women, the "ritualistic aftertaste" lingers still. While it feels more upbeat than Rihanna there's only one way to make music with Jay Z, submit. I'm surprised I didn't see any pyramids gang signs.
