Remember when the shuttle reaching ISiS was such big news on CNN? Was there some special urgency, some question of whether this seemingly routine flight would reach its destination?

looks exactly like that one video with the tether that broke....they were referred to as,"ice crystals."
Has NASA gave an official explanation of what that is?
