A mysterious boom and light occurred over the skies of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Va., on Sunday night, but just what caused the phenomenon is still unknown.
Calls from local residents to 911 began coming in at around 9:45 p.m. EDT, with some people reporting their doors and windows rattled when the boom went off, according to reports from WVEC-TV.
Similar reports in the past often have turned out to involve meteors, which can explode in the atmosphere to create a loud noise and bright flash of light that streaks across the sky. However, often times the source of events like this are not determined.
In a recent scientific first, meteorite fragments of an asteroid that was spotted in space before it exploded over the African desert in October were recently recovered and examined by scientists.
The jury is still out as to what caused Sunday's event.
Here's an interesting clue:
The National Weather Service released a statement at 11:17 p.m. Sunday:
"Numerous reports have been called in to this office and into local law enforcement concerning what appeared to be flashes of light in the sky over the Suffolk/Virginia Beach area. We are confident in saying that this was not lightning ... and have been in contact with military and other government agencies to determine the cause. So far ... we have not seen or heard of any damage from this and will continue to inquire as to the cause."
In contact with the military? Interesting. Many thanks to Miranda for the tip.
UPDATE: The mysterious boom and flash of light seen over parts of Virginia Sunday night was not a meteor, but actually exploding space junk from the second stage of a Russian Soyuz rocket falling back to Earth, according to an official with the U.S. Naval Observatory. - AP
I've never heard of such a thing. How about that?

Google Camera Car Captures ET Materializing in NJ
Well, well, well...
"This is a story in our area daily newspaper, The Star-Ledger. It is reporting on coverage from The Daily Telegraph of a Google camera shot taken back in 2007. The story states that it is unclear why the Telegraph is reporting on this now, but perhaps it is because the photo was only recently been released.
I recall when there were UFO sightings in that area at the time and there have been quite a number since. I am quite familiar with the road where it occurred, Diamond Hill Road. It is true that there is commonly a mist in the rolling hills of that area. The mist, however, does not take the form of an ET nor have I ever seen a laser beam of light by the mist. I used to travel that stretch of road frequently in the morning, when such mists occur, so I know what kinds of shapes the mist takes."
PS please post a link to the Norfolk event? I want to ask someone there about it.
Thanks.
All of the branches of the armed forces have a presence in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Hampton Roads area. That the military might be contacted is probably rote.
Thanks for the photo- I updated last week's post on that story with it. I updated this article with a link.
Considering all the burning debris raining all over the skies lately, I have not one doubt the govt knows whats going on, as its obviously culpable. The fact its happening in military hotspots like Norfolk makes it even more obvious that something is going on up there.
