Don't Panic!

The Swine Flu epidemic is being magnified to the nth degree in the Internet hothouse. A lot of this is because the Western Hemisphere hasn't seen this kind of outbreak in a while, whereas Asia recently dealt with SARS and the Avian flu. All I can is be very careful but don't panic. That kind of stress can knock down your immune system at exactly the wrong time.

I'm not sure where all of you are located, but remember that many parts of Mexico are very crowded, very hot and very poor. People often keep lifestock on their small plots and backyards. Diseases that are merely troublesome elsewhere become deadly in environments with poor hygiene and sanitation.

Whatever this is- and I think we need to take all of the theorizing with a grain of salt until we have more data- the best weapon is common sense. Keep your hands and face clean, take your vitamins and supplements like zinc and lysine and keep some Echinacea on hand. I'm due to travel in May, and will probably bring a mask and goggles on the plane with me.

Keep aware but stay centered and calm and focused- that's an important tool in dealing with any kind of disease. If you don't have a mediation practice, it might be a good time to start. Whatever happens, fear is always your enemy.

Great points you've hit on here Chris.

I'm sure big pharma would love people to be rushing out to medical facilities for immunity-compromising vaccines, but most of us who have looked into that phenomena realize what THATS ABOUT.....culling the herd.

Natural immunity is key & can be aided by by foods & herbs such as Garlic, Ginger, Goldenseal root, Ginseng, kefir & yogurts, raw kale & broccoli, and any decent superfood powdered greens like the ones from New Chapter brand which is all organic. I would also suggest a dandelion/milk-thistle herbal tea to get the liver functioning well from all the leftover winter blahs (its a traditional spring tonic for that very reason).

PS the above is not medical advice, just a friendly dose of knowledge.

And most of all, the mindset of health is key - stay sane calm & rational, as worry, anxiety & tension all inhibit the normal function of the immune system & prevent the toxins in our bodies from being expelled as readily.

Heres to everyone health, sanity, intelligence & good fortune....

Excellent advice, Orgone- I forgot to mention garlic. Another thing people might consider are regular enemas or colonic irrigation- since it's the colon where most disease develops. And this too is friendly conversation, not medical advice!

Yes, you mention what only some might consider due to their irrational fear of their own bodies.....colon cleansing is a great tool & a valued folk remedy thats become mainstream knowledge again.

& BTW, the liver is the seat of emotional status in TCM (traditional chinese medicine) so it does wonders in helping dispel anxious & "stuck" emotions...

I always put the " not medical advice" b/c I sometimes get carried away.... & honestly we don't need people emailing you up telling you that their cayenne & garlic mixed into dandelion tea left them in the bathroom all night! :D
(Which by the way, it most likely wouldn't..)

My wife and I are very much into using "alternative" therapies as much as possible. I rarely get sick (though my colds and coughs can drag on for a while), and I take a variety of supplements as finances allow.

Many years before I met my wife, something really terrible happened to her. She started taking anti-depressants, which caused her weight to double within about a year. She couldn't even eat normally without gaining weight, and she kept saying so to the doctors. They didn't believe her, and she kept getting the "diet and exercise" mantra. However, the anti-depressants had done a number on her metabolism, and she ends up retaining water if she eats certain foods (especially wheat).

After we had gotten married, she had some health scares which made her decide to try Atkins. Although I have become a pescetarian within the past few months, I can attest that a meat-heavy diet like Atkins (along with "alternative" therapies, eating organic, and exercise) really seemed to help her. Within a year, she had lost around 100 pounds. My wife has recently gained back some weight, so she is trying stuff like dandelion tea to lose it.

My point... well, I guess it's just another story to show that big pharma is something to watch. Perhaps as alternative therapies and ancient wisdom become more accepted by the mainstream, we will can all have better physical and mental health. Too bad that it, too, has become commodified.

Cliché. Mexico City is the epicenter and it is the second metropolis after Tokyo, a rich city with no cows in the street as Bombay. This is a new virus, not something to play the civilized patronizing gringo...

I didn't say anything about MC. And just because that's the epicenter does not mean it started there. It means that it's spreading more rapidly there due to the population density. And there are parts of the city that are very poor and not Tokyo-like- as well as still-high levels of air pollution.

I'm going to wait and watch with this situation.

Chris,

Thanks for being clear, I think that in this case, as many, the devil will be in the details, as this one:

The Mexican Goverment canceled all courses until May 6h. 33.3 students will have an obligatory rest. Interesting number to say the least... Today it´s the 117th day of the year, also a day with a strange deja vu all over Manhattan. For me, all this epidemy has a kind of ritual component Chris...

33.3 million students, sorry

I agree- there is a weirdness about this. But my general rule these days is to automatically disbelieve anything I hear in any of the corporate media- and that goes double for the conspiracy media as well. Same with political figures of all varieties.

Collate, collate is all we can do...

LOL! I'm sure that will put your fellow passengers at ease!

Oh, I have a feeling I won't be alone if this situation escalates (gods forbid).

Happy Monday: people in NYC (Manhattan, Jersey City) panicked over a low-flying 747 circling the city on an AF photo-op.

SNAF(L)U. Interesting fnords appear in articles covering the story and photos accompanying them.

What have we been seeing in the news about Mexico in the past month? Drug gangs, Santa Muerte, and border anxiety, right? Think about these four words... Center For Disease Control. Think control BY MEANS of disease! This 'pandemic' shifts the blame for All That Is Wrong back to those pork-raisin' Mexicans!! War by Other Means.

Ned, that thought has crossed my mind. Along with all kinds of others.
