It's everywhere now. Isn't it? It seems like everything is synchronized with the sci-fi meme. Kinda wish Grissom was there to deliver some intellectually stimulating commentary on the geek fest. However, it is interesting to see Fishburne replacing him like Obama did Bush, with these themes swirling around like crop circles. Doesn't it?
Being in the UK I am 6 episodes behind (and barred from watching the video) but in general CSI has a lot of explicitly odd/sci-fi themes, like Ickian reptile shape shifters, suicidal saucer cults and an "alien" corpse excavated in the desert (with a guest appearance by French Stewart, obviously touching on his Third Rock appearance but he crops up all the time when they need someone... "alien." He appeared in "Bzzzzzzzzz!", the only episode of Pushing Daisies I've seen, which was filled to the brim with overwhelming bee/hive imagery. I see from Wikipedia that he made his movie debut in the Stargate film - you couldn't make it up).
And they are the blatant CSI themes, before you get to the transgressive ones (often written by Jerry Stahl, including one of the better received treatments of transgender issues) and some of the odd symbolic aspects: the one that stands out is the "little people" convention - see Loren Coleman's post and my comments (the earlier ones are more relevant, before the synchronicities kicked in).
All that before I really started digging into things.
