The Passion of the Gib

Gibson's wife Robyn files for divorce on Maundy Thursday. Obviously sending a message there. Gibson's drinking problems are well-documented, now there are reports of an affair. How incredibly not surprising.

Geb was the Egyptian god of the Earth and a member of the Ennead of Heliopolis. The name was pronounced as such from the Greek period onward, (formerly erroneously read as Seb (cf. E.A.Wallis Budge, The Gods of the Egyptians. Studies in Egyptian Mythology (London, 1904; republ.Dover Publications, New York, 1969) or as Keb. The original Egyptian was "Gebeb"/"Kebeb", meaning probably: 'weak one', perhaps:'lame one'. It was spelled with either initial -g- (all periods), or with -k-point (gj). The latter initial root consonant occurs once in the Middle Kingdom Coffin Texts, more often in 21st Dynasty mythological papyri as well as in a text from the Ptolemaic tomb of Petosiris at Tuna el-Gebel or was written with initial hard -k-, as e.g. in a 30th Dynasty papyrus text in the Brooklyn Museum dealing with descriptions of and remedies against snakes and their bites.

He is also equated by classical authors as the Greek Titan Cronus.


The oldest representation in a fragmentary relief of the god was as an anthropomorphic being accompanied by his name, dating from king Djoser's reign, IIIth Dynasty, and was found in Heliopolis.

As one of the Heliopolitan Ennead, Geb is a cosmic deity and the eldest child of Shu. The union of Geb with his twin sister Nut produced the deities of the myth of Isis, Osiris, Set and Horus.

The idea of Geb as a healing god is also found in texts dealing with scorpion stings and how to heal them.

Geb is intimately associated with the kingship of Egypt through the uraeus symbol, which he gave to the king as a symbol of his power. It was also worn by the gods Ra and Horus. In myth it had the power to spit fire in defence of its wearer.

Geb could be seen as earth containing the dead, or imprisoning those not worthy to go to the North and the heavenly "Field of Reeds".

I suppose to be even more to the topic of this article I should have reviewed the wikipedia cut & paste info and corrected it to included Nephthys in the list of children...

Cana = Cain = Reed / Branch
Canaveral (Field of Reeds)
Cana Da = Father Cain
Cana Feral = Cain of the Wilderness
Al Cana Vere = The True Cain
Al Cana Ver(d)e = The Green Cain

What was that about "Two balls and Cane"?! :0
