Vatican: Knights Templar held Shroud of Turin

Wow.

Medieval knights hid and secretly venerated The Holy Shroud of Turin for more than 100 years after the Crusades, the Vatican said today in an announcement that appeared to solve the mystery of the relic’s missing years.

The Knights Templar, an order which was suppressed and disbanded for alleged heresy, took care of the linen cloth, which bears the image of a man with a beard, long hair and the wounds of crucifixion, according to Vatican researchers.

Read the article here. Then re-read Knight and Lomas' The Second Messiah. I don't believe this story coming out now is coincidental.

Bug report - seems that links from a page on this blog featuring a single post trigger "Google Bad Request" Errors.

specifically, "Blog Archive" links and "Followers" widget on the sidebar of this article
failed for me.

Shroud of Turin: I watched an interesting doco on this once, where they concluded that it was a hoax as put together by Leonardo Da Vinci - apparently he was a bit of a kidder. It was his personal piss-take of an institution he had no respect for - and his opportunity to immortalise his image (as the Christ). He basically used photographic technology to put his image onto the sheet (hence the lack of scorching). The head is his and the body is some other guys...

Who knows what the old alchemists could do? I'm fascinated by the Shroud- I love those kind of metamysteries.
