...in our political system to cheer one ray of sanity sunlight in the never-ending bipartisan Clownshow: Barack Obama takes time off from lustily enshrining Bush/Cheney secrecy and war policies to introduce funding proposals for high speed rail. We're also seeing light rail make a quiet comeback (it has to fly under the radar to avoid attacks from the oil industry's pet polticians).
Wouldn't it be nice if major metropolitan areas in North America all had adequate rail transportation? Roadways in the entire northeastern corridor have become completely bogged down- as have our pitiful commuter railways. Wouldn't it be nice to stop letting the oil and car companies dictate public policy and have semi-civilized public transportation? We could also reduce congestion at airports (I don't know about you guys but I hate flying these days) and overcrowded hubs like Penn Station.
We've heard it all before, but I can dream, can't I?
