I am intrigued by the painting positioned between the Pope and the First Lady as well.

You and me both, Liza.

I was going to say the same thing Liza pointed out.

Looks like Jesus decided to join them by entering the room through a stargate upon seeing Isis...

Yeah that picture in the background is interesting, if it is depicting Jesus, what's with the red trousers and what appears to be a bushy tail?

Does anyone know what that painting is? I found another version. It looks like stargate Jesus and the 2 angels are standing on flying saucers, he's also waving the english flag.

This might be looking to deeply into things, but... In the foreground of the photo, I think what they're doing with their hands is interesting. Obama is baring his wedding ring towards the pope, while the first lady is covering hers up (a gesture towards chastity?). Meanwhile everyone's favorite celibate batchelor has his hands clasped together in confident symmetry. Plus, he kind of looks like a red pyramid in that cowl!

There's definitely something radiant about Michelle Obama in that photo and there seems to be be quite a few photo's where she's interacting with background paintings in a potentially meaningful way.

That is a seriously whacked painting in the background. It would even tweak me out without Barackobamun, the Knights Templar, and Our Lady in front of it.

It corresponds very strongly with an auditory hallucination i once had while meditating on the heart chakra. Two female angelic voices sang, while a third male voice followed, creating a harmony.

I think we can expect some kind of "Savior" walking out of the vagina in the sky, any day now.

This image of Michelle jolted me because it's so rare to see a black woman meeting a pope and wearing a mantilla.

I can't help but wonder what that old nazi was thinking as he stood between the giant Obamas.

Chris, here's my take: Michelle Obama = Black Madonna. The Black Madonna is worshiped in many European countries, including Italy, so given the context of the country and the Vatican, this makes sense to me. The madonna archetype works with the Mother Theresa/Princess Di "brand" Michelle's people are working overtime to craft for her. It also works with the weird ritualistic stuff going on with her husband.

Sidebar: According to the show "Lie to Me," the posture of the Obamas (hands crossed in front) is "a self comforting gesture, trying to reassure yourself when you don't really believe what you're saying." It could also be their way of controlling the urge to touch everybody.

I think it's called a Mantia, and Laura Bush wore a very similar outfit during her meeting with the Pope.

The link above speaks this type of garb being appropriate when meeting the pope. Here is a link showing previous first ladies in similar fashion. Seems photo ops in front of that painting are ritualistic?

Just a quick note- the veil itself alone isn't what interests me...

That background painting is still annoying my brain. Had a look at Anony's links and some other sites and tt appears in the background in a decade's worth of meet and greet photo's with the pope. Photo's that include so many members of royalty and world leaders.( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/294703.stm )Yet I've not being able to find anything out about the actual painting. Hmmph.

Also what else is it aside from the veil if you dont mind me asking?

I'm with you on the painting Mr. Panda, and I finally found more information on it:
Painted by: Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino:

Glad somebody finally pointed out this weirdness. Yup- It's customary for heads of state, male and female, to wear black while visiting the pope. He is thier "illuminati" boss, and all. He's above, they're below, etc. etc. What I think is really funny, is how the press is always making remarks about what Mrs. Obama wears. The conservatives like " Drudge" et.al can't get enough. But when she shows up wearing the grim 15th century black Mantia, for the first time ever, does anyone say anything about it? NOPE. Not a mumblin' word. ( 'cept here at the Satellite, of course! )
